CodeSpace Social Impact
We want all South Africans to be able to benefit from the economic opportunities in our tech industry. To open doors to high-potential jobs in the tech industry, we offer education financing through the CodeSpace Trust.
Invest in education.
Draw alongside CodeSpace to ensure that young South Africans are not unnecessarily excluded from the opportunities the tech economy offers. You can commit to a monthly or once-off donation that contributes to funding a financially needy student. As a sponsor, you will receive quarterly updates on our financed students with opportunities to be involved in our student community.
Change who is part of the tech industry.
Financing is awarded to students who show excellent academic potential. All applicants are stringently screened for their potential to thrive in a tech career. We prioritise funding for women of colour from low-income households who attended low-fee schools and do not have access to tertiary education.
Start someone’s career.
To date, 85% of the students we have financed have launched careers in the tech industry, typically securing intern or junior-level roles as Software Developers or QA Testers.
Before studying at CodeSpace, our financed students typically worked in retail, services, and sales, earning an average salary of R3280 per month.
Within six months of graduating, their average earnings rose by 2.7 times to R8789, and within twelve months, by 4.5 times to R14,755.
Furthermore, their career satisfaction doubled from 4 out of 10 before joining CodeSpace to 8 out of 10 in their new careers.
From bored delivery driver to thriving developer.
Having hit a career ceiling at his delivery driver job, Marlon decided to learn to code to access the high-growth job opportunities available in tech. Since graduating from CodeSpace, his career success has allowed him to move out of home, get married, and buy a house. Despite receiving numerous offers from other companies, Marlon has stayed at his current company for 4 years, receiving consistent promotions, a good salary and perks, and a sense of security.
Give sustainably
Students who receive financing are able to enrol with no upfront cost, and may receive additional assistance such as a laptop, a study stipend, and assistance in gaining employment.
Students are asked to commit to making repayments after graduation to cover a portion of the total cost of their education package, ensuring that all donations are sustainable and that the next student has a chance to study.
